In the beginning, from hip hop’s Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five to Kendrick Lamar, there was a time when cellphone recordings were nonexistent and social media was not in our everyday lives, projecting vile police brutality. Young and old, adults of color taking to the streets, stores, and parks brought light to it all through hip hop. Black celebrities have used their voices to bring awareness to the country’s race relations in America and solidarity toward a community that feels more under attack than ever.
